Twitter said in a Twitter Support tweet late Tuesday that hateful conduct and violence were added to the list of link categories it may block, and that accounts sharing links of this sort face suspension.
The social network said in a second tweet that the new guidelines would take effect Thursday (July 30), adding, “Our goal is to block links in a way that’s consistent with how we remove tweets that violate our rules.”
In its link policy, Twitter defined hateful conduct as “content that promotes violence against, threatens or harasses other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability or serious disease.”
And the social network defined violence as “content that threatens violence against an individual or a group of people, or glorifies violence where people were targeted because of their membership in a protected group, or the perpetrators of such acts.”
